About The Author

Randall D. Knight

Randall D. Knight

Dr. Randall Knight or Randy, taught introductory physics for 32 years at California Polytechnic University and Ohio State University. He is Professor Emeritus of Physics at Cal Polytechnic Univ. Professor Knight received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics before joining the faculty at Ohio State University. It was at Ohio State that he began to learn about the research in physics education that, many years later, led to 5 Easy Lessons: Strategies for Successful Physics Teaching and this ebook, as well as College Physics: A Strategic Approach, co-authored with Stuart Field and Brian Jones. Randy’s research interests are in the field of environmental science and laser spectroscopy. When Dr. Knight is not in front of a computer, you can find him hiking, playing the piano, sea kayaking, or spending time with his wife Sally and six cats.

A research-driven approach, fine-tuned for even greater ease-of-use and student success

For the 4th Edition of Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Knight continues to build on strong research-based foundations with fine-tuned and streamlined content, hallmark features, taking college student learning to a new level. By extending problem-solving guidance to include a greater emphasis on modeling and significantly revised and more challenging problem sets, college students gain skills and confidence in problem solving. A modified Table of Contents and the addition of advanced topics now accommodate different teaching preferences and course structures.
