Christopher S. Foote

Dr. Christopher S. Foote (5 June, 1935 – 13 June, 2005) was a professor of chemistry at UCLA and an expert in reactive oxygen species. He published more than 250 articles, editorials, and notes. Dr. Foote was cited over 14,000 times with an average of 450 citations per year since 1989. He was also famously known for his textbook Organic Chemistry .

The American Chemical Society gave Dr. Foote their Baekeland award in 1975, named him a Cope Scholar in 1994, and gave him the Tolman Medal in 1996. In 2000 an international symposium in honor of his 65th birthday was held in Hawaii. The Christopher S. Foote Chair of chemistry at UCLA is also named after him.

Eric Anslyn

William H. Brown

Dr. William H. Brown is emeritus professor of chemistry at Beloit College, where he was twice named Teacher of the Year. His teaching responsibilities include advanced organic chemistry, organic chemistry, and, more recently, special topics in pharmacology and drug synthesis. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University under the direction of Gilbert Stork and did postdoctoral work at the University of Arizona, and California Institute of Technology, USA

Organic Chemistry 8th edition is a college-student friendly, cutting edge introduction for chemistry, health, and the biological sciences majors. In the 8th edition, award-winning authors build on unified mechanistic themes, applied pharmaceutical problems, focused problem-solving, and biological examples. Stepwise reaction mechanisms emphasize similarities among mechanisms using four traits: breaking a bond, adding a proton, making a new bond, and taking a proton away. Pull-out organic chemistry reaction roadmaps designed step-wise by chapter help college students devise their own reaction pathways. Additional features designed to ensure student success include in-margin highlighted integral concepts, new end-of-chapter study guides, and worked examples. Emphasizing “how-to” skills, this edition is packed with medicinal chemistry problems, challenging synthesis problems, and unique roadmap problems.
